The 5 Most Pet-Friendly Room Dividers (Yes, Really)

Alright, well, frankly, we can’t believe we’re having this conversation. But it needs to be had.

For the last year, the demons in our head and the furry critters on our bed have been keeping us company, mostly. And that’s cool and all, but anyone with a pet knows that furniture should come with an insurance policy.

If you’re like us, you’ve been in the market for some new furniture as long as you've been off the market for, uh, *checks notes* human interaction.

That’s right, you’re sitting at home, looking at that couch...that bookshelf… just wondering why you haven’t moved on and upgraded. You and your furniture are in a toxic relationship. It’s time to upgrade.

But, as a loyal friend, your pet has to like the new guy (or gal) that you choose. In other words, you need to take your pets into consideration when buying furniture. It’s just what a responsible adult would do. And you wouldn’t want to be...irresponsible, would you?

That’s right. You’re a functioning, sane, well-balanced adult who takes others into consideration when making decisions and doesn’t act on impulse, ever. That’s why you’re reading this blog… to educate yourself. Obviously.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the Top 5 Most Pet-Friendly (pet-proof?) Room Dividers we could find.

(PS, the idea for this blog came from a comment on our last blog from Alaina. She also said our email collection pop-up is annoying. Would you agree? Let us know in the comments, we won’t get offended).

1. The Cat Case

Yeah, this rules. Just like all the best products though, it lived and died on Kickstarter and never properly hit the market. There are 100 lucky backers that got their hands on one, but that's about it. On design points alone, though, it’s worth showing for all you ambitious DIYers out there.

Part-time bookshelf, part-time cat-tree, full-time room divider, this bad boy features a combination of shelves and tunnels for your cat.

Knowing a cats nature, it might just sit in the bookshelves anyway because f**k you, but who knows? It never hurts to extend the olive branch, and it’s definitely a purchase they’ll appreciate. Plus, if your cat has a soul at all (unlikely, but ok) it’ll stay OFF the shelves, USE the tunnels and look very a e s t h e t i c while doing it, too. Fingers crossed.

2. diyversify Wall Mounted Partition Wall Divider & Door Kit

If you’re looking for a more reliable solution, a couple of screws may be well worth it. Wall-mounted partitions are no match for any pet, cat, dog, hamster, iguana, or whatever other creature is keeping you sane through the pandemic (or insane, amiright cat owners ha ha).

They even come with doors! Talk about sending a message. If it’s a dog, just explain that you’ll be more emotionally involved if you just get some alone time. 9 times out of 10 it works every time.

If it’s a cat, ask ‘em how that emotional unavailability feels, and make sure you sneer when you say it.

If you need a room divider in between you and your hamster, we have bigger problems.

3. Touchstone Pet Cat Enclosure

Moving right along, we have this contraption, that is *apparently* for sale at 5 retail locations across the U.S. Seriously, look at their website.

It’s considered pet friendly because it will keep you locked inside, unable to strangle them after they dookie on the couch for the 8th time in 9 days. See? It’s a pet product, really.

Jokes aside, this is technically a pet-friendly room divider. The photos aren’t inspiring, but it belongs on this list.

4.

Alright, getting serious now.

While these aren’t creating any real privacy per se, the french-door style fixed glass divider does look gorgeous and definitely adds a modern European touch to any space. Fastened to the wall and floor, your animals simply can’t compete.

5.

Last but not least, we have the Kallax (how many blogs have been written about this thing?) 2.0 PET FRIENDLY edition. Check out what this genius did, someone’s clearly living in 3008 with this idea.

Look at this guy! Instead of knocking it over, he’s just going to scale it, hang from it, fight it… but also love it. And you’ll love it too… I mean, it’s like a sacrificial lamb at this point. You do this, you get your room divider and you save your other furniture from being tormented… or so you think. It’s worth a shot.
